[edit] Spell Descriptor Traits
[edit] Tag
Spells with a tag are special. Tags may bring special rules into play. These special rules should be defined or adjusted to your games needs.
- Moral Tags
- Some spells have specific traits that they need moral judgement. One who wants to cast such a spell is commiting his/her soul to this moral state. Casting a spell with an alignment tag ([Good],[Evil],[Law] or [Chaos]).
- Extreme Moral Tags
- Some things are so extreme that you must be at least of suitable normal alignment, but also dedicate yourself far more into its nature. Common tags for this would be [Holy] or [Vile].
- Mystical Tag
- These tags are not necessarily embodied with a special rule, but help finding spells of a certain theme that does not necessarily match spell schools. [Shadow] would be magic dealing with the plane of shadow.
[edit] Basic Tag Rules
The basic rules presented here are pretty simplistic. As spells are mentioned that are Vile or Holy that is accompanied by "taint of Evil" a GM should decide how to treat this.
A spell with this tag ...
- [Chaos]/[Evil]/[Good]/[Law] - ... can not be cast by a caster of opposing alignment
- [Anarchic] ... can only be cast by a caster of chaotic alignment with a burning rebel spirit
- [Axiomatic] ... can only be cast by a caster of chaotic alignment with the desire to crush those opposing the traditional way.
- [Darkness] ... a Darkness Spell can counter or dispell any [Light] Spell of same level or lower.
- [Holy] - ... can only be cast by a caster of good alignment that has no taint of Evil
- [Light] ... a Light Spell can counter or dispell any [Darkness] Spell of same level or lower.
- [Vile] - ... can only be cast by a caster of evil alignment that is tainted by Evil. Casting this spell brings a caster closer to the Vile nature.
- [Shadow] - ... performs magic that affects the plane of Shadow. Unless the spell permanently brings something from the plane of Shadow to this world it has no deeper effect.
[edit] Variant Tag Rules for morally taged Spells
In this variant every caster can use a spell of this kind, but doing so changes yourself. Spells such as [Vile] spells are so extreme, that it must affect your personality, but spells with a [Good] tag only affect you to a certain degree.
